Kerrie's Page

I designed this blog, and based it around the psychological reasonings behind persuading the public to increase their recycling of plastics and card. Persuasion is according to Perloff (2008) "the study of attitudes and how to change them." When initially considering how to approach the blog, I kept in mind the fact that those who recycle already, will be those who freely follow the blog; but it is not these people who I need to attact and persuade. By refering to the three aspects of psychology, social (how people interact and relate), behavioural and cognitive (how people make sense of their world's), I feel that I have been able to target these varied audiences. These target audiences all have differing behaviours, opinions and personalitys which need to be considered. Below is the link to my personality test results.

The am 'The Overseer'. I live in a world of concrete facts and needs. I live in the present, and keep an eye to check that everything is running smoothly, and is well organised. I have a clear set of standrads and beliefs, and thrive on order and coninuity. I am hardworking and practical, enjoying putting theories into practice.

I feel impressed with how the blog has turned out, and see it as powerful and salient. By using the theme of imagine, there is consistency throughout the blog, meaning emphasis on the importance of recycling plastic and card. The use of imagaine as the title, means that those who do not currently recycle will also be attracted to the blog, as it poses questions in the readers mind. Readers will also not immediately not associate the blog with recycling, giving us time to use this social media to begin to change their attitudes to recycling, despite previous associations they had, using social proof to help us.

Books I have read include:
  • PERLOFF, M, Richard, (2008). 3rd ed. The Dynamics of Persuasion.
  • CIALDINI, B, Robert, (2009). 5th ed. Influence Science and practice.
